Behind the art: There was an anti drug commercial back in the 80’s where a father walks into his son’s room holding his son’s stash of drugs that he found. Confronts the son asking him “Who taught you to do this stuff?”
The son replies “You alright?! I learned it by watching you!”
That commercial always stuck with me not because of the anti drug message but because I never knew my dad. I was always searching for that missing part of me through TV. And the message I received was filled with a lot of toxic masculinity that took many years to unravel. It’s why I try to make work that points these things out, and maybe helps someone stay self aware.
